Obituary of William R. Singletary, Jr.

1925 - 2016 William R. Singletary, Jr., died peacefully on March 1, 2016. Bill Singletary was born to William R. Singletary and Rita V. Brown in Portland, Oregon, in 1925. He was an avid and enthusiastic hiker and sportsman around the Northwest and a dedicated skier of Mt. Hood, before the era of ski-lifts. At Oregon State University he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering that led him to begin employment after graduation with General Electric Co., in the power transformer division in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. It was in Pittsfield that he met and married his beautiful wife Barbara L. Sprague. He continued as an industrious and creative engineer with GE for more than 30 years in other locations, eventually completing his career in the high-voltage direct-current transmission division in Philadelphia, PA. Bill was always active in his basement workshop, repairing and making furniture and electrical devices. He was a devoted member of the Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Wallingford, PA, and served many years as a deacon and treasurer. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years Barbara. He is survived by his brother Craig Singletary of McMinnville, OR, his daughter Sharon Jarrett of West Chester, PA, his son Keith Singletary of Apollo Beach, FL, four grandchildren, Nicole Jarrett and Andre Jarrett of West Chester, PA, Larissa Singletary of Seattle, WA, Rachel Singletary of Jacksonville, FL, and a great-granddaughter, Nola Mari Bell of West Chester, PA. Memorial Service: Saturday, March 12, 2016, 12:00pm at Grace Bible Fellowship Church, 723 South Providence Road, Wallingford, PA. Interment: Private
