Obituary of Everett Swanson
Everett Swanson, age 97, of Glen Mills, PA, died August 30, 2013 at Fair Acres Nursing Home of Lima, PA.
Mr. Swanson was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, serving in the US Navy for 30 years, as a Chief Warrant Officer, retiring in 1966. He served in Midway, Guadalcanal, and Antarctica (1 year), and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. Everett was a Chief Petty Officer and worked as a Damage Control Officer. He had been a member of the Liberty Bell Chapter of Pearl Harbor Survivors and a recipient of 16 Bronze Stars.
Mr. Swanson was employed as a Counselor for the Glen Mills Schools, Glen Mills, PA, for 32 years, where he had a baseball field named after him. He lived on the Glen Mills Schools property, for the last 40 years.
Mr. Swanson was a member of St. George Lodge AF&FM, a member of Dealcho Consistory, South Carolina, a member of the Shriners, Wilkes Barre, PA and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Mr. Swanson was predeceased by his beloved wife, Peg.
He is survived by a niece Susan Canius and a very dear friend Jenell Kesler.
