Edward C. Miller, 80
Edward C. Miller, of Glen Mills, PA, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Taylor Hospice Residence.
Born in Folsom, PA, Ed lived in Ridley Township for 76 years, until moving to the Maris Grove retirement community in Glen Mills, PA, three and a half years ago.
He attended Ridley Township High School, then served in the United States Air Force for three years. After leaving the Air Force, Ed attended and graduated from Quaker City Aeronautics School and worked as a commercial aircraft engine mechanic with TWA in Flushing, NY. In 1957, he returned to Folsom and served as a volunteer firefighter with the Folsom Fire Company, while enrolled in a draftsman trainee program at Westinghouse where he worked for 27 years, until the plant closed. In 1984, he became the Code Enforcement Officer for the Township of Ridley, earned his BOCA code certification, became the Building Inspector, and served on the Citizens Building Committee, until his retirement in 2002.
He and his wife, Donna, then became "snowbirds", spending their winters on Florida's Gulf Coast. An active gardener and pond enthusiast, he was a member of the Delaware Valley Water Garden Society and Delaware Valley Chrysanthemum Society. Ed was also an active member of many Maris Grove activities, with Bocce topping the list. He was a sports enthusiast, Phillies fan, and lifelong Ridley football supporter. He was best known for his generous spirit and sense of humor which never wavered during his illness. As a lifetime Delaware County resident, he was known to many and will be missed by all who knew him.
The youngest of seven, he was predeceased by his parents Matilda and William Miller and his siblings William, Louis, Anne and John.
