Obituary of Mary Jane Schork
Mary Jane (Whitmore) Schork, of Chadds Ford, PA, died Saturday, March 23, 2013. Mary Jane was born at home in Lima, PA. The youngest of seven children, she was the daughter of the late Dollyne K. and Truman A. Whitmore, Sr.
Mary Jane was raised in Media, PA, and was a graduate of Media High School. While in high school, one of her first jobs was as an usher at the Media Theater with her sister, Joan.
Mary Jane worked for Riddle Memorial Hospital for twenty-seven years, starting as an admissions clerk. By the time she retired in 2009, Mary Jane had worked her way up to being Quality Assurance Coordinator.
Mary Jane was a proud second-generation member of Christ United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, PA, where she served as a trustee and was a longtime member of the choir. Since childhood, music had always been one of her greatest passions. She played various instruments throughout her time in school, and as an adult she loved playing her piano and organ at home. As she told her children and grandchild, music always lifted her spirits, and she instilled this passion in them.
Animals were another one of Mary Jane's joys. Throughout her life, she was the loving parent to a menagerie of four-legged children, including dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, and horses. Both four-legged and two-legged, Mary Jane's family was her life. Many of her happiest times were spent at family gatherings-picnics, barbecues, and holiday dinners. But, above all, Christmas was her favorite holiday. Anyone who knew Mary Jane knew she couldn't pass a Christmas shop or craft fair without buying another decoration. Her children often joked with her that she could run her own Christmas bazaar out of her home.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brother ReVelle Whitmore.
