Obituary of Kathryn S. Green
Kathryn Theresa (Kitty) Davis Sommerville-Green, 85, passed from this life to eternal life with her Lord and Savior on August 11, 2012 at a Media health care facility. Kitty was born August 28th, 1926, the second child of Andrew and Theresa (Wilson) Davis.
Kitty was raised on Naaman's Road in Delaware, graduating from E. I. DuPont High School in 1944. She then worked in Washington, D.C. for the F.B.I. during the war years. Following the war, she married the man she waited for to return, William McLean Sommerville, Jr. They shared 25 years together before his untimely passing in 1971. Those years were filled with building a home and raising three sons in Brookhaven and Middletown Twp. Dad's passing on meant a new phase of Kitty's life. She learned to drive, went to secretarial school and found employment with Delaware County government. She worked in the Court House in the Commissioner's office, then as administrative secretary for the County Parks Department at Rose Tree Park. She served county government for 16 ½ years before her retirement in 1990. In 1981 she married Raymond Green, living in Media until his passing in 1994. Kitty then moved to Smyrna, Delaware to be closer to her brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Pat Davis.
Kitty was a longtime member of Middletown Presbyterian Church (50 yrs.) and First Presbyterian Church of Smyrna while living there.
Kitty is survived by her sons: William McLean Sommerville, III (Priscilla) of Gouldsboro, ME; their children Hilary Ann Forrest (Jacob) and their children Caleb, Ephrem, Hanna and Cathryn of Traveler's Rest, SC; and Ian McLean Sommerville (Lauren) of Aston, PA. James Andrew Sommerville (Fran) of Marietta, GA; their children Dr. Britt James Sommerville, M.D. of West Hollywood, CA and Jamie L. Sommerville of Marietta. Raymond Clifford Sommerville (Monica) of Pulteney, NY; their children Heather-Leigh Kathryn Ba (Adou) and their son Bo; and Amy Leigh Sommerville of Astoria, NY. Special step daughter Janet Green Klein (Don) of Goodyear, AZ and their daughter Courtney. Kitty is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Pat Davis of Smyrna; and several nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, both husbands, her brother Andy, her sister Mary Jane Smith and her husband Boots, her niece Peggy Ann and nephew Adam Davis.
Our family would like to acknowledge special appreciation to grandson Ian, special friends Pam Grover and Jane Rowley for their faithful visits and kindnesses over the past 5 years. We also cannot thank enough the staff at Fair Acres Geriatric Center, especially Building 6-2 and 8-4 and their compassionate care givers as well as Life Choice Hospice during Kitty's final weeks.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Kitty's memory be made to Middletown Presbyterian Church at the above address; or First Presbyterian Church of Smyrna Delaware, 118 W. Commerce Street, Smyrna, DE 19977
