Obituary of Han Jolyon Lammers

Han Jolyon Lammers, age 82, passed away sleeping peacefully on the morning of Thursday, January 25, 2024.

He was born at the brink of war in Indonesia on August 15, 1941, to a recently widowed mother. At age six months, as the Dutch colonial government collapsed following the Japanese invasion, he and his mother were evacuated to Australia on one of the last military flights to leave the island.  When peace returned to Europe, five-year-old Jolyon and his mother returned to the Netherlands, to a country and an extended family he had never known.

At 15, following an active youth spent ice skating on the canals and sailing small boats across the English Channel, the growing family left the Netherlands to a new home in Toronto and later Pennsylvania.

As a second-year law student in Carlisle, he was introduced to his future wife of 52 years, Lindgren Johnson, a newly arrived schoolteacher. They spent the first two years of their marriage living in London before returning to the US in 1972 and buying the Media home where they would raise their sons and grow old together. Jolyon and Lindgren immediately joined Middletown Presbyterian Church which has provided a home and family to this day.

Jolyon is survived by his two sons, Marshall (Christina) and Hendrik (Cassandra) and four grandchildren; Alexander, Anna, Caroline and Eleanor, as well as his dear sister Fiona van Reisen. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Lindgren who passed away in May, his father Hendrik Willem Lammers, mother Hedy van Reisen, and step father Paul van Reisen.
